Late last year, I fell in love with Penny Reid. I tried Neanderthal Meets Human after her hilarious banter with readers in a book group and was instantly addicted. Since that time, I’ve devoured nearly all her books. She is brilliant but witty and quite honestly, like no other other author I have read. I was thrilled when she launched a new serial that was somewhat different from my previous reads by her. I am not a huge fan of serials but after reading the synopsis, I knew this was going to be “elemental.”  This book definitely does not disappoint, and Ms. Reid has solidified herself as an automatic 1-click for me.

I was smitten with Kaitlyn Parker from the first chapter and had a full girl crush by the ending. She is intelligent but has a hilarious inner dialogue. I was laughing constantly at her thoughts and actions.  While she is fun, she has insecurities and fears that make her endearing and loveable. It has been a while since a NA heroine has endeared herself to me like Kaitlyn. Her need to invent live rules on the fly and recite synonyms are only a few of the things I adored about her personality.

“For the love of Bunsen, please put your pants back on.”

I didn’t immediately warm to Martin. He is somewhat arrogant and brash. However, as the storyline unfolds, I found myself  liking him more and more. Since the book is all Kaitlyn’s POV we don’t learn Martin’s full story in this installment. However, I enjoyed seeing him through her eyes and felt it was perfect for the storyline. There is certainly more to his background and personality yet to be discovered. I enjoyed their banter and chemistry with one another. It’s the perfect mixture of humor and sexiness.

“You don’t want or need a girlfriend.”
“I want you.”

As Ms. Reid warned, there is cliff hanger ending. However, she is a complete sweetheart and includes the first chapter of Heat. In the world of CHers, it’s not that all bad, you will definitely survive. I cannot wait to dive back into the installment!

SEX! It all started with sex, between my parents. Personally I don’t like thinking about it, but whatever works for you is a-ok with me. No judgment. The sex happened in California and much of my life also occurred in that state until I moved from the land of nuts (almonds), wine, silicon… boobs, and heavy traffic to the southeast US. Like most writers I like to write, but let’s get back to sex. Eventually I married and gave birth to 2 small people-children (boy-6, girl-4 as of this writing).
By day I’m a biomedical researcher with focus on rare diseases. By night I’m a knitter, sewer, lino block carver, fabric printer, soap maker, and general crafter.
