Violet Hayes’s life is a mess. Between her stalker, Preston, refusing to leave her alone, her parents’ case still being unsolved, and falling behind in school, she always feels on the verge of losing it. When some unexpected news comes her way, it’s the final straw and she ends up doing something that almost costs her life. Thankfully, she survives and makes a promise to herself to put her life back together and to try and figure out exactly how she feels about Luke Price, the one person that’s always there for her.
But as a recovering alcoholic and gambler, Luke has his own struggles to overcome. He’s also fallen in love with Violet, but fears telling her the truth, that it will scare her away or worse, she won’t reciprocate the feeling. Plus, there never seems to be a right time to say it, either the case, Preston, or life getting in the way.
Can the two of them ever get enough peace in their lives to conquer their fears and finally tell each other the truth about how they feel?
There is no other author that can make me cry, bite my nails, curse, and nearly hyperventilate like Jessica Sorensen. In fact, I hold ALL cliffhangers to “Callie & Kayden” test; as in, no other cliffhanger can ever top it. However, she did come extremely close in Violet and Luke’s first book. This trilogy of books focusing on Violet and Luke has been nothing short of a roller coaster ride. True to its characters, the final book does not let up for one moment. I started this book holding my breath and did not exhale until the last word. While this book is not long, my heart would not have handle anymore intense moments.
Because deep down, my heart want to be here with Luke, which mean all of that had to happen. Destiny, right?
As with the other two books, Certainty is told from Violet’s and Luke’s alternating points of view. I do not believe their story could be told any other way. These are two of the most complex and emotionally closed characters I have read. There is no way to know their feelings without the internal dialogue. What is even more miraculous is being able to watch their change as they struggle to finally learn to love and accept one another. I appreciate all the unique twists and turns that these two have faced. It never feels over the top or unnecessary, which can happen with NA books. Jessica is truly a master of angst without ever going over the top to accomplish it. You feel Luke and Violet’s heartaches but also their hope to move on and perhaps find love one day.
“You have me, and I promise I’m not going anywhere. Ever”
I have adored Luke since the first book of this series. He has now solidified himself as one of my all time favorite male characters. His transformation is nothing short of amazing. You will fall in absolute love with his dry humor and loyalty to Violet. He is so far removed from his early self but only in a positive way. There were multiple times throughout this journey, I questioned Violet and her actions. However, in this final installment I found myself truly understanding and appreciating her character. Of course, it would not be Coincidence without the rest of the gang. There are appearances by Callie, Kayden, Seth, and Greyson. This group has completely captured my heart and soul. It makes me sad to think this series is drawing to a close.
Wishes are just wishes. Destiny is just destiny. And neither really has control over your life.
Although I would never admit it, I truly appreciate the absolute “torture” I have undergone reading Violet and Luke’s story the last several months! The best stories are the ones that can make us feel the most – and this series has done that without a doubt! I am looking forward to the next book with Callie and Kayden. ~ Rebecca
It’s like he’s fighting to breathe, his solid chest rising and falling heavily with each breath he takes. “You have to start trusting me.”
“I do trust you. Too much,” I whisper, shutting my eyes. “You could crush my heart if you wanted to.” The silence that follows is maddening.
Did I just say that out loud?
Time feels endless as I wait for what comes next. I hear him shift on the seat, feeling him scoot closer
“Violet, open your eyes.” His breath dusts my cheeks.
I swiftly shake my head, smashing my lips together. “I can’t.” But I find myself opening my eyes anyway and he’s so close, only inches away from me.
“I would never ever hurt you,” he promises, his hand gently cupping the back of my neck, fingers spreading across my skin. His touch sends a shot of tingles across my flesh and causes me to shiver as he guides me toward his lips. But I’m already leaning in, an invisible current pulling me toward him, like two magnets about to collide.
When we do crash into one another, it’s dangerously intoxicating, steals the air from my lungs, and sends my heart slamming in my chest. I’m already falling again to that place where I feel helpless yet safe. Emotions press their way to the surface, this time too strong to ignore. It hits me like lightning, an electric current surging through my body, overwhelming heat that both brings me alive and kills me at the same time.
I think it’s then that I know what I’m feeling. The thing I’ve been trying to avoid for days now, and I’m both terrified out of my mind yet alarmingly at peace.
