“Love is like a thief, it robs you of all thought and logic and all you have left is a heart that you can only pray is strong enough to survive the rest.”
I am a huge Karina Halle fan and have loved all her other writings. She has commented openly this book is different from all her other works, so I began this story with a huge knot in my stomach. The Prologue had me riveted and it didn’t stop until the last sentence of the book. After finishing, I felt kind of silly to have ever doubted Karina’s abilities to completely immerse me into this complicated, yet beautiful love story.
Most of the book takes place in Spain and the background is mesmerizing. The book is so descriptive, you can close your eyes and easily picture events and places. I definitely have a new love of all things Spain. Vera Miles is unique; she is the not the typical heroine seen in NA writings. She is flawed – full of self doubt, sexually open, tatted, and well educated. Despite her tough exterior, she is a brilliant and beautiful. She is drawn to a man who couldn’t be more different. Matteo is much older, wealthy, confident, and most importantly married. Mateo and Vera live in different worlds – literally. As expected this story is very emotional and messy. However, the love story is beautiful. You will be pulled in many directions emotionally. How could a romance like this ever end happily? (No spoilers here!)
If this is your first Karina Halle book or your tenth, you will not be disappointed. I highly recommend this book to any romance fan! This is a stand alone book – no cliffhanger.
